Good morning/afternoon, fam!

Fall-elujah! It’s a-maize-ing!1 We’re only one week into pre-fall and I’m already looking online for sweaters (as I sit here outside in the sun wearing a t-shirt, stealing free WiFi from a closed coffeeshop).

At this point, I don’t give a f***! I’ll have a bonfire in 80-degree weather while roasting my butt off. Come at me!

Here’s what I have for you this morning:

After one of my best friends and fellow comic nerd Thomas recommended Paper Girls: The Complete Story, I picked it up and dove right in. I’m only three or four issues in, but I’m already getting Stranger Things meets Baby-Sitters Club vibes in the best way possible. It’s nostalgic AF with a ton of 80’s references, amazing dialogue, and I’m already pumped to watch the series on Prime Video (one I finish the comic, of course).
Speaking of Prime Video2, my wife and I finally started Rings of Power and holy billion dollars Batman! This is seriously the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen maybe on any screen. Now I can see why they pumped more than $715 million into this series. Fuck the fans/haters who refuse to acknowledge it’s 2022 and check this out now!
What if I told you there is a movie that is almost scene-for-scene the same as the original Top Gun…but for NASCAR?!? I know, I know. I was iffy at first, but Days of Thunder has the same winning recipe: a young, hot shot Tom Cruise + an authoritative love interest who is far too good for him + a soundtrack that makes you want to chug a Red Bull and run a red light in your Buck Century + a story about two rivals who become besties. If you can accept that this movie is 100% a product of it’s time and ignore the fact that NASCAR has always been racist as fuck3, then you’ll love this one.
Enabling my downward spiral into fall, Abby brought home the only snack worth eating after September 1st: Caramel Apple Pops. If you’re also super impatient and don’t mind losing a filling or two, you’ll love these.
Did someone say fall?! While at ITAP (a local beer hall with a metric crap ton of beer), we ushered in the season with our annual pint of Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. This dark, spicy goodness is totally worth the tummy problems.4
Remember that dork Thomas from like two minutes ago? Well, he’s in town which naturally means bar-hopping around STL. Naturally, our first stop was Stone Turtle so he could try their signature Smoked Old Fashioned. They even give you the jar of bourbon with smoke so you can pour it yourself! What can I say? I’m a sucker for an interactive cocktail
