Saturday Morning Cartoons #39
Soccer, the Gateway drug.
Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good workweek.
Tonight is STL City SC’s first home game ever and St. Louis has been celebrating since yesterday with a big ‘ol block party. Anderson Paak and Metro Boom even came out, but ya boi didn’t make it the entire night - I had sweatpants at home that weren’t going to wear themselves.
We’ll be rooting on the guys tonight at Pat Connolly with the help of our friend Jameson.
If you want to figure out where to watch it, check out the team’s official app. The UI is slick as hell and whoever designed it deserves a fat raise.
While I read up on the rules of soccer, feel free to check out this week’s recs.
Bust out those neon Umbros, lace up your cleats, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
If you’re looking for a non-fiction book that reads like fiction and you want to learn more about coffee, I can’t recommend The Monk of Mokha enough. It was so good, I blew through it in four days. Dave Eggers is a goddamn genius.
Into spy stuff? King of Spies is a short, four-part comic series about the world’s greatest secret agent who learns he has six months left to live. Bonus: It’s written by Mark Millar, one of my favorite comic writers, so you know it’s good.
Abby and I started the first season of The Flight Attendant and I honestly can’t really describe it. Wikipedia says it’s “a dark comedy drama mystery thriller” which sounds about right, but there is a lot going on. We’ll at least finish the first season.
For our weekly movie night, we somehow landed on M3GAN and wow. Another genre-bending watch that I’m still trying to figure out. Definitely some meme-able moments, but it’s not winning any awards anytime soon.
Have you ever heard of a Barraquito? I hadn’t either until I saw this on Insta. 100% trying this as soon as I can hunt down some Licor 43.
Instagram got me. As I was doomscrolling, it served me up this Dumpster Fire “This is Fine” toy from 100% Soft and I couldn’t say no. It’s a nice, little reminder on my desk for when things feel a little cray cray at work.
Welp, we now live in the future where currency is made up and emojis count as investment advice. Be careful what you tweet, fam.
Apparently, this is the best smoothie on the internet. Thoughts?
Sharing your work with others can be tough, especially if you're just getting started. Here’s a little advice on how to grow an audience online.
Work from home and miss your morning commute? Here’s how you can have a “normal” commute while working from home.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
